UNILAG Bans Unauthorised Skit and Film Productions on Campus
The University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, has prohibited the unauthorised use of its campus, including hostels and other facilities, for video production by skit makers, filmmakers, and content creators.
In a statement issued on Thursday, October 28, and signed by the institution’s Head of Communication, Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, UNILAG expressed concern over the growing trend of individuals shooting skits, movies, and other video content on campus without approval.
According to the university, the directive is aimed at protecting its academic environment and safeguarding the institution’s image from misrepresentation in unregulated productions.
“The attention of the University of Lagos Management has been drawn to the increasing use of the University premises, including hostels and other facilities, for shooting of films/videos (skits, vox pop, etc.) and cinematographic activities, without appropriate authorisation,” the statement read.
The university noted that there are established procedures for filming or content creation within its premises, and anyone, students, staff, or external collaborators, must obtain official approval from the Communications Unit before recording.
It urged all members of the university community and the general public to comply with the directive in the interest of order, safety, and collective responsibility.
