BREAKING: Sowore, Ejimakor, 12 Other Protesters Released From Kuje Prison
Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has been released from Kuje Prison after fulfilling the bail requirements set by a Magistrate Court in Abuja.
Sowore, along with Nnamdi Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, and 11 others, were arrested during a peaceful #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest in Abuja last week.
Arraigned before Magistrate Abubakar Umar Sai’id on Friday, they were charged with unlawful assembly and disturbance of public peace. The court granted them bail at ₦500,000 each, with conditions including a verified National Identification Number (NIN), tax clearance certificates, and submission of their passports.
After meeting the conditions, they were released on Monday.
Sowore had been arrested shortly after attending a separate court session at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Meanwhile, reports surfaced that an awaiting trial inmate, Dung Bulus Pam, died overnight in Kuje Prison from an undisclosed illness. Sources alleged he was one of several detainees held for prolonged periods under the same police prosecutor handling the protesters’ case.
Ejimakor, who was reportedly ill following his detention, had initially faced delays in completing his bail due to the court not immediately signing his release documents.r
