There is no government in Bayelsa State, Gov Diri lost legitimacy to continue in office when he dumped PDP– Adolphus Wabara
Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Adolphus Wabara, has declared that Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, no longer has the legitimacy to remain in office following his resignation from the PDP.
Wabara said Diri’s decision to quit the party without joining another contravenes the Nigerian Constitution, stressing that the governor has effectively disqualified himself from holding office since independent candidacy is not recognized in the country. He added that Diri must relinquish the position, as the mandate he holds belongs to the PDP.
Wabara maintained that Bayelsa, at the moment, has no legitimate Governor. “There is no government in Bayelsa State. There’s no democracy in Bayelsa State. Our constitution does not accommodate independent candidacy.
“For the Government to dump the party that brought him to power and claim that he is ‘partyless’, is unconstitutional. Staying alone without a platform is an impeachable offense,” he said.
