Security Operatives Disperse #FreeNnamdiKanuNow Protest in Abuja

A peaceful protest calling for the release of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, turned chaotic on Monday in Abuja after joint security operatives forcefully dispersed demonstrators led by activist Omoyele Sowore.

The protesters, which included Kanu’s lawyer Aloy Ejimakor, had gathered near the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) headquarters in Maitama, chanting “Free Nnamdi Kanu Now.” Moments later, gunshots and teargas were fired, sending protesters and onlookers fleeing.

Eyewitnesses reported heavy security presence and road blockades across major government areas, with several arrests made, including some members of Kanu’s legal and family team.

The incident highlights ongoing tensions surrounding Nnamdi Kanu’s continued detention despite court rulings in his favour, raising renewed concerns about the government’s stance on peaceful protest and freedom of expression in Nigeria.
