MNKOct20: Release Ejimakor, others or we will occupy your offices – Sowore tells FCT police
Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has issued a stern warning to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, demanding the immediate release of Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, counsel to detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, who was arrested during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest in Abuja on Monday.
Ejimakor, Fineboy Kanu (Kanu’s relative), and several other protesters were reportedly apprehended by security operatives during the peaceful demonstration.
Reacting on his verified X handle, Sowore condemned the arrests and described them as illegal, vowing to mobilize protesters to occupy the FCT Police Command if the detainees are not released.
“The FCT Police is instructed to release Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, Fineboy Kanu, and others illegally arrested, tortured, and currently being forced into detention… or we will occupy their office,” he warned.
Meanwhile, Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga has called for disciplinary action against Ejimakor, arguing that his participation in the protest violates legal ethics since Kanu’s case remains before a court.
Onanuga wrote that as a lawyer, Ejimakor “should know the principle of sub judice,” describing the protest as “shambolic and ill-advised.”
