”Why are these particular set of criminals the priority of the state?” – Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour criticizes presidential pardon granted to 70 convicted drug lords

Labour Party’s 2023 Lagos governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (GRV), has criticized the presidential pardon granted to 70 convicted drug lords.

In a post on his X handle, GRV decried the move, noting that drug trafficking has ruined the lives of many Lagos youths. He questioned how such convicts were able to leverage powerful connections to secure a pardon.

Last week, the presidency granted clemency to 175 convicted criminals, a decision that has drawn widespread backlash.

‘’The drug crisis ravaging the youths of Lagos is a tragedy that is actively tearing families apart and wasting away the future of our youth. Those recently granted presidential pardons were not innocent victims ( mules) or mere users, they were drug pushers and dealers, profiting from the misery of our people.

How is it that those fueling this drug epidemic have such powerful connections to the president or the presidency to be able to secure 1/3rd of the presidential pardons? Why are these particular set of criminals the priority of the state?
