He suddenly became deaf, dumb under Tinubu – Fr Kelvin calls out Soyinka
Catholic missionary priest in The Gambia, Rev. Fr. Kelvin Ugwu, has criticised Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka for what he described as his “deafening silence” on the economic hardship under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In a Facebook post titled “Prof Soyinka Then vs Prof Soyinka Now,” Ugwu compared Soyinka’s past activism against former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan to his current quietness.
He said Soyinka, once a fearless critic and social crusader, had become “silent” since Tinubu took office, accusing the president of plunging Nigerians into “multidimensional poverty.”
Dismissing claims of ethnic bias, Ugwu noted that Soyinka had previously criticised Yoruba leaders like Obasanjo, adding humorously that Tinubu’s hold on critics “must be strong juju.”
