Actress and entrepreneur, Temi Otedola, officially adopted her husband’s surname, becoming Temiloluwa Ajibade, following her marriage to Afrobeats star, Oluwatosin Oluwole Ajibade (Mr Eazi).
This decision sparked criticism online as Many people argued that she had abandoned the “influential Otedola name” associated with her public image as the daughter of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola.
Addressing the controversy in a Wednesday interview with BBC, Temi described the move as a personal choice.
She stated, “I’m now a married woman, and the obvious thing for me was to take my husband’s name. But it’s my decision, and I respect that every woman has the right to choose.”
The actress further explained that maintaining the privacy of her relationship has been instrumental in managing her public image.
“Moving in silence allows you to build your own story and share it when you’re ready.”
Speaking on her father’s recently released memoir, Temi said the book offers the world insight into his decades-long entrepreneurial journey.
She praised his resilience and revealed that his decision not to involve his children directly in his companies pushed them to carve their own paths.
“At first I was disappointed, but it turned out to be a blessing. It encouraged us to create our own way,” she noted, adding that his determination during difficult times remains her greatest source of inspiration.
Temi further acknowledged her privileged upbringing, stressing the importance of being honest about it.
“Oh, absolutely. You will never hear me deny it. It’s important for people born into privilege to acknowledge the advantage they’ve had,” she said.
