The money could have been used to build 30 blocks of 6 classrooms – Obi criticises Adamawa LG chairmen for sponsoring their wives to Turkey
Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has condemned the decision of Adamawa’s 21 local government chairmen to sponsor their wives on a “leadership training” trip to Turkey.
Obi, in a post on X, described the move as a waste of about ₦600 million in public funds, stressing that the money could have been used to build classrooms, improve basic education, or empower women-led businesses.
He noted that local government funds belong to ordinary Nigerians, teachers, pensioners, farmers, and market women, not for frivolous trips. While commending Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s infrastructure strides, Obi urged leaders to embrace prudent, people-focused governance.
