Rivers: ”We are not bothered” – PDP reacts on Fubara’s possible defection to APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State says it is unbothered by speculation that Governor Siminalayi Fubara may defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on the matter, the State Chairman, Robinson Ewor, described any political decision by the governor as a “personal choice.” He stressed that Fubara, like every citizen, has the right to pursue any political interest he deems fit, provided it aligns with the overall interest of Rivers people who elected him.

Speculation about Fubara’s defection gained traction after he was spotted on Monday alongside Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, the APC Governors’ Forum Chairman, during a visit to President Bola Tinubu.

Ewor, however, maintained that he has no knowledge of any such plan, nor has the governor communicated such intentions to him.

After resuming office following a six-month suspension and emergency rule, Fubara did not acknowledge the role of the PDP in resisting the declaration. Recall that 11 PDP governors had dragged the APC-led government to court, challenging the imposition of emergency rule, while several prominent Nigerians also described it as “unconstitutional.”
