The Senate has allowed itself to be used – Aisha Yesufu on reopening of Natasha Akpoti’s NASS office
Activist and co-convener of the defunct Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) movement, Aisha Yesufu, has accused the Senate of being used as a tool, while expressing hope that the legislative body regains its independence.
Her comment comes after the unsealing of the office of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central. Natasha’s office, Room 205 in the Senate Wing, was reopened by the Sergeant-at-Arms of the National Assembly alongside security operatives, signaling that she may soon return to official duties as lawmakers prepare to resume plenary on October 7, 2025.
Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended following her allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Reacting on X, Yesufu wrote: “The Senate has allowed itself to be used. Hope they get their independence.”
