Nigerian musician, Don Igwe, has triggered heated reactions online following his controversial remarks about men who empower their wives financially.
Speaking during a podcast, Igwe argued that a man’s problems begin the very day he decides to set up a business for his wife or girlfriend. According to him, “The day you empower your wife, that is the day your problem starts.”
Beyond financial empowerment, Igwe expressed deep distrust toward women. To back up his claims, he shared the story of a couple married for 50 years. He alleged that the husband later discovered, through DNA testing, that only the last of their four children was biologically his. “Fifty years of a Christian woman, one you could vouch for, yet this was the reality,” he said.
Igwe didn’t stop there. He further asserted that any married woman who continues to use her maiden name is not truly married. In his words, “You are not married. You belong to your father’s house. Let that your father whose name you’re bearing marry you.”
His comments have since ignited debates across social media, with many calling out his views as problematic while others argued that he was simply voicing a harsh reality.
