Rivers State Welcomes Governor Sim Fubara Back After Six-Month Suspension
The city of Port Harcourt came alive today, September 18, as thousands of Rivers State residents thronged the Government House to welcome their governor, Sim Fubara, back to office.
Governor Fubara’s return follows the announcement by President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday, September 17, lifting the six-month suspension placed on the governor, his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. The suspension had been imposed as part of a state of emergency declared on March 18, 2025, amid a prolonged political standoff between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
With the presidential directive restoring democratic governance in Rivers State, excitement filled the air in Port Harcourt. Supporters and various groups gathered in celebration, beating drums, singing, and dancing as they awaited the governor’s arrival at the Government House.
Governor Fubara’s reinstatement marks a significant moment in the state’s political journey, bringing hope for renewed stability and unity after months of uncertainty.
