Plateau Lawmaker Adamu Aliyu surrenders after being declared wanted for alleged fraud

Plateau lawmaker Adamu Aliyu has surrendered to the ICPC after being declared wanted over alleged contract fraud.

Aliyu, who represents Jos North-North in the state assembly, turned himself in at the commission’s Abuja office on Monday, September 15, days after Justice Emeka Nwite ordered his arrest for shunning investigators’ invitations.

He is accused of duping businessman Mohammed Jidda of over ₦73 million under the pretext of securing an ₦850 million TETFund contract at the University of Jos. Investigators say Aliyu presented a forged award letter for a ₦500 million sports hall project, leading Jidda to transfer funds into accounts linked to him and a company, Imanal Concept Ltd.

The University of Jos later confirmed the letter was fake, while bank records allegedly traced nearly ₦48 million directly to Aliyu’s personal account. The ICPC also claimed he had been planning to flee the country before his surrender.
