”This stark imbalance should raise questions about equitable representation” – Bashir Ahmad kicks as he says only two Northerners have assumed office of INEC chairman compared to the 10 from the South
Former Presidential aide Bashir Ahmad has expressed concern over the limited representation of Northerners in the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a post on X, Ahmad highlighted that of the 12 INEC chairpersons appointed since the commission’s inception, 10 hail from the South East and South South regions, while only two have come from the North.
He described this as a “stark imbalance” and argued that it raises important questions about equitable representation in one of Nigeria’s most critical democratic institutions.
