Akon’s wife Tomeka Thiam files for divorce after nearly 30 years of marriage
Akon’s wife, Tomeka Thiam, has filed for divorce.
Court documents show that Tomeka, who married the singer in September 1996, is ending the marriage on grounds of irreconcilable differences. This is coming just days before their wedding anniversary.
The couple share a 17-year-old child, and Tomeka is requesting joint legal custody but wants physical custody awarded to her. She is also seeking spousal support while asking the court to bar Akon from receiving any in return.
Akon has long been vague about the number of “wives” he has, but Tomeka’s filing sets her stance in black and white.
The singer has yet to comment publicly on the development.
