The Tax is unfair at struggling Nigerians – ADC Bolaji Abdullahi

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has sharply criticized the Federal Government for imposing a new 5% tax on petrol, labeling it an extra burden on Nigerians already struggling with the removal of fuel subsidies

In a statement released on Thursday, ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, called the timing of the tax deeply insensitive.

He urged the government to suspend the measure until Nigerians start seeing real benefits from ongoing economic reforms.

Abdullahi also challenged the government’s claims of increased revenue, stating that these assertions don’t match the country’s current financial situation.

The ADC spokesman pointed out that despite reports of record earnings, the Federal Government’s continued heavy borrowing raises questions about its economic policies’ long-term viability.

“The ADC finds this tax deeply unfair at a time when the majority of Nigerians are still reeling from the effects of fuel subsidy removal.

“Regardless of the economic motives, what is clear is that citizens need relief, not more pressure,” Abdullahi stated.
