‘Police, FRSC have no right to check your car particulars’ — Nigerian man shares advice from his lawyer
A Nigerian man recently took to social media to share advice he received from his lawyer regarding car documents.
He explained that his lawyer clarified police officers in Nigeria have no legal authority to request vehicle particulars from drivers. Only Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO), identifiable by their white uniforms, are authorized to inspect such documents.
The man added that even officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) are not entitled to see car particulars, citing a court ruling that supports this.
He also noted his lawyer’s point that many police officers rely on intimidating drivers, taking advantage of the fact that most people are unaware of their rights.
