FG declares Tuesday Public Holiday in honor of late former President Muhammadu Buhari
The federal government has declared Tuesday, July 15, a public holiday in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday at a clinic in London, United Kingdom.
This holiday comes in addition to the seven-day national mourning period earlier announced by President Bola Tinubu.
Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement in a statement issued on Monday through the ministry’s permanent secretary, Magdalene Ajani. He stated that the public holiday is a mark of respect for Buhari’s contributions to Nigeria’s democracy and national development.
“President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with dedication, integrity, and a strong commitment to unity and progress,” the statement read.
Tunji-Ojo urged Nigerians to use the day to reflect on Buhari’s legacy and promote peace, patriotism, and national unity in line with the values he stood for.
