VP Shettima is in full support of President Tinubu’s action in Rivers state – Presidency
The Presidency has clarified that Vice President Kashim Shettima’s comments at a book launch on Thursday, July 10, were not a criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s actions concerning the situation in Rivers State.
During the event, Shettima recalled how former President Goodluck Jonathan allegedly considered removing him as Borno State Governor in response to the Chibok girls’ abduction and rising insecurity. However, former Speaker Aminu Tambuwal and ex-Attorney General Mohammed Adoke reportedly advised Jonathan against the move, saying he lacked the constitutional power to remove an elected official.
Some Nigerians interpreted Shettima’s remarks as a veiled criticism of Tinubu’s recent suspension of Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
In response, Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media (Office of the Vice President), dismissed those interpretations as a “gross misrepresentation,” stressing that Shettima fully supports President Tinubu’s decisions regarding the political developments in Rivers State.
