Police response to crime in Lagos is less than 10 minutes — Commissioner of Police, Olorundare Jimoh says

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olorundare Jimoh, has announced that the police command now responds to robbery and other public order crimes within five minutes of receiving a distress call.

Speaking on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday, June 19, Jimoh stated that the command has improved its crime response time from under 10 minutes to just five. “Once you call us, under five minutes, we are there,” he assured, emphasizing that Lagos is secure and that police often prevent crimes before they happen. When crimes do occur, quick response helps deter further offenses.

He also maintained that violent crimes in the state are mostly prevented, and those that happen are swiftly dealt with. On the broader national security issue, Jimoh rejected the idea of state police, arguing that better funding for the Nigeria Police Force is the key to improved security. “State police is not the solution. Adequate funding is,” he said.

Highlighting recent progress, he noted that traffic robbery has been “successfully eradicated” in Lagos. Regarding the upcoming local government elections on July 12, 2025, Jimoh said any decision to restrict movement would depend on potential threats. If needed, the police will enforce moderate restrictions to maintain order without shutting down the state.
