I am not tied to anybody. I am not anti-Tinubu – Atiku’s former spokesperson, Sowunmi
Segun Sowunmi, a prominent PDP leader and former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar, has sparked debate after publicly declaring President Bola Tinubu intellectually superior to political opponents like Labour Party’s Peter Obi.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Sowunmi defended his recent meeting with Tinubu, stressing it didn’t imply disloyalty to Atiku.
”I am at liberty as an adult to take decisions,” he said. “I am not tied to anybody. I am not anti-Tinubu.”
He hailed Tinubu’s political acumen, stating, “By miles, he is smarter than them. He is smarter than Peter Obi, he is smarter than them.” Sowunmi clarified that while Atiku focuses on coalition-building, an effort he’s not involved in, his Lagos meeting with Tinubu was merely a critique of Nigeria’s democratic challenges.
The remarks follow Daniel Bwala’s 2024 defection to Tinubu’s camp after a similar meeting. Sowunmi, however, insists he remains a PDP stalwart.
