I have been receiving threats for defending claims that Lagos is smelling – Comedian Acapella
Comedian Acapella recently revealed that he has faced multiple threats after criticizing Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, over his response to claims that Lagos is “smelling.”
The controversy began when influencer Scott Iguma posted a viral video alleging that Lagos is filled with “big mosquitoes” and has an unpleasant odor. In a strong rebuttal, Commissioner Wahab accused individuals migrating to Lagos from other states of deliberately tarnishing the city’s image by spreading harmful narratives on social media. He emphasized that such claims undermine the state’s progress and development efforts.
In response, Acapella criticized Wahab’s remarks, leading to the threats against him. The comedian has since called for a more constructive dialogue on the city’s environmental issues, urging both residents and officials to focus on solutions rather than blame.
This incident highlights the ongoing debate over Lagos’s environmental challenges and the role of social media in shaping public perception.
Acapella revealed via his X handle on Tuesday that he received several threats regarding criticisms to state and the commissioner.
He wrote, “Over The Past days, As expected, Ive received several DMs and Few Calls making empty treats here and there. But, let me make it clear, that No Nigerian Is More Nigerian Than Any Other Nigerian. Don’t let anybody gaslight you into believing you are de marketing the country; especially when you point out the ills that befalls us as a Nation.
“The first step to solving any problem is to first identify there’s one. We are all we have. I hope with these few points of mine. I rest my case for now.”
