UTME 2025: Ensure instant display of results at the end of the exam- Nzuko Umunna charges JAMB

A group of Igbo Think Tank, Nzuko Umunna, has expressed concern over the outcome of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB.

However, in a statement made by Prof Chinedu Nebo, President, Nzuko Umunna and Dr Uju Agomoh, Executive Secretary, the group said a repeat of such anomaly must not be allowed. This comes amid JAMB’s admittance that a glitch affected the outcome of the exercise in the entire South-East and Lagos State as the affected candidates are set to rewrite the examination today.

While noting that the very disturbing saga of JAMB results for South Eastern candidates had not gone unnoticed, the group said, “some of us in the academia and other realms have been networking to ensure that the now notorious ‘glitch’, (INEC classic alibi for selective mutilation of processes) isn’t allowed to truncate the future of our children.

“We figured that if we let this one go unchallenged, they will do it for WAEC and NECO examinations.”

“Given that many of our children are currently retaking the examination as at today 16th May 2025, we strongly insist that no such occurrence should happen in future.

“Also, we urge that JAMB should ensure instant score display at the end of the exam.

“The UTME is a Computer-Based Test (CBT), so there’s no reason why candidates should have to wait days after the exam to receive their results.

“This feature is standard in many global tests like GRE, GMAT, and TOEFL. Nigerian candidates deserve the same level of dignity and clarity.

“Displaying scores immediately after the exam ends will: promote transparency and trust; reduce suspicion and controversy; ensure that any errors or discrepancies are spotted early and help students take responsibility for their performance or contest it, if necessary,” it stated.
