SDP now the alternative party in Nigeria – Party vows take over in 2027.
As the 2027 general elections approach, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) is intensifying its efforts to expand its membership base and position itself as a formidable alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and other opposition parties. Abubakar Dogara, the SDP’s National Vice Chairman for the North Central Zone, highlighted these initiatives during the party’s North-Central Zonal Caucus meeting in Nasarawa State.
Dogara emphasized that the party is actively engaging in member registration drives and organizing meetings at various levels, from national to ward levels, to strengthen its structure. He described the SDP as the “new political bride” of the Nigerian people, underscoring the party’s commitment to expanding its support base across the country. He also commended key party figures such as Hon. Jonathan Gaza, Prince Adewale Adebayo, and Hon. Femi Olaniyi Ferrari for their instrumental roles in the party’s progress in the North Central region.
A significant resolution from the meeting was the commitment to safeguard the party’s structure and protect its members from external influences that may seek to undermine its integrity. Dogara called on Nigerians to support the party and its candidates, emphasizing the SDP as a viable alternative to the current administration. He criticized the ruling party for failing to uphold constitutional provisions that protect citizens’ rights, positioning the SDP as a party focused on the welfare, interests, and security of the people.
In Benue State, Idoko Idoto, the SDP Chairman, expressed strong optimism about the party’s prospects in the state and beyond. He declared that the SDP has a “100% chance” in Benue State, citing the party’s previous governance and consistent fielding of credible candidates. Idoto affirmed the party’s readiness to deliver impactful leadership in the upcoming elections.
These developments indicate the SDP’s strategic preparations for the 2027 elections, aiming to present itself as a credible and effective alternative to the current political landscape.
