If you choose to enter a polygamous marriage, do so because you genuinely desire it, not because you think you’re the “special one” sent to rescue the husband from a difficult first wife – Nigerian journalist tells Women
Nigerian journalist Zahra Abubakar has cautioned women considering polygamous marriages against believing they are “special” or sent to save a man from his supposedly difficult first wife.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, she noted that many second wives are surprised to find that the first wife is often not problematic, but rather a strong and supportive presence. She warned that such misguided assumptions can lead to feelings of insecurity and unnecessary rivalry.
Abubakar advised that women should only enter polygamous unions out of genuine desire, not with a savior mentality, adding, “The husband knows exactly what he’s doing.”
