”He should shave his beards to lead by example” – Reactions as Niger state governor orders that persons with dreadlocks be arrested, fined, and given a haircut

Governor Umar Bago of Niger State has instructed security agencies to arrest individuals sporting dreadlocks in Minna, the state capital.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ security meeting on Tuesday, April 22, at the Government House, Bago ordered that anyone found with such hairstyles should be arrested, have their hair cut, and be fined.

“We will have zero tolerance for rascality. Anybody that you find with dreadlocks, arrest, barb the hair, and fine him. Nobody should carry any kind of haircut inside Minna. I have given marching orders to security agencies,” he declared.

He also urged parents to take responsibility for their children’s behavior, emphasizing that the government would adopt stricter security measures moving forward.

The governor’s directive has stirred backlash online, with many Nigerians taking to social media platform X to express outrage.
