Insecurity: ”When will Tinubu declare a state of Emergency on his own presidency?” – Atiku asks

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, urging him to declare a state of emergency—not on the country, but on what he described as a “disastrous presidency.”

Atiku condemned the president’s prolonged stay in France amid worsening insecurity at home, including renewed killings in Plateau and Benue States and the resurgence of Boko Haram. He accused Tinubu of negligence, noting that the president had spent 59 days in France since taking office.

“At a time when Nigeria is bleeding and citizens are living in fear, the president is on another foreign trip under the guise of a ‘working visit,’” Atiku said in a statement through his media aide, Paul Ibe. “This isn’t leadership; it’s abandonment.”

He further criticized the government for misrepresenting the nature of the trip and wasting public funds on what he called “vanity trips,” arguing that such activities reflect misplaced priorities and contempt for struggling Nigerians.

Atiku listed rising insecurity, poverty, and national despair, declaring, “This is not just poor leadership—it’s catastrophic dereliction of duty. A true leader would return home and take charge in times of crisis.”

He concluded by accusing Tinubu of abandoning the country in its darkest hour and called for urgent action: “Nigeria is already in a full-blown state of emergency. The real question is: when will Tinubu declare one on his own presidency?”
