We may be a poor country but we are capable and won’t beg anyone – Minister, Ali Pate
Nigeria’s Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Ali Pate, has affirmed that the country can sustain its healthcare system despite the withdrawal of USAID support.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk, head of President Donald Trump’s newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has criticized USAID, calling it corrupt and ideologically biased. U.S. Congressman Scott Perry also alleged that the agency has misallocated funds, including claims of financing terrorist groups.
Speaking with Channels Television, Pate emphasized that Nigeria would rely on its own resources and would not seek external aid.
“We may be a poor country, but we are a capable country, and we are determined to own up to that responsibility.
“If others step in and support us, we appreciate it, but we are not begging for it, and we also will live within what we have,” he said.
