Woman sells baby for N4m, gives mother N600,000
A 26-year-old woman, Rachael, has confessed to selling her two-week-old baby for N600,000 due to financial struggles. The child was later resold for N4 million to a 42-year-old woman seeking adoption.
Rachael, a resident of Asaba, Delta State, was paraded by the police alongside two accomplices. She explained that she was struggling to raise her children alone after the baby’s father denied paternity. To survive, she did odd cleaning jobs and eventually sought help from a broker, who arranged the sale.
The broker admitted to selling the baby for N3.5 million but only gave Rachael N600,000. Meanwhile, the buyer claimed she was assured the adoption process was legal and had been promised official documents.
