
UNIZIK: Female student allegedly bites lecturer, authorities begin probe
Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State, has launched an investigation into an altercation between a Theatre Arts lecturer, Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, and a student over a social media video.
According to the university’s spokesperson, Njelita Louis, appropriate sanctions will be applied to any party found guilty.
The incident, captured in viral videos, involved Goddy Precious, a third-year History and International Studies student, who was recording a TikTok video in the corridor when the lecturer walked past and tapped her shoulder to ask her to move. The student, angered by the interruption, accused the lecturer of hitting her, grabbed his shirt, and allegedly bit him during the scuffle. Despite the confrontation, the lecturer remained composed throughout.
In a statement, the institution said, “The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has been made aware of a disturbing incident involving Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies, and Goddy Mbakwe Precious, a third-year student in the Department of History and International Studies.
“The incident, which has gained significant attention on social media, is being taken very seriously by the university authorities.
“In line with our core values of discipline, self-reliance, excellence, and adherence to the principles of fair hearing, equity, and justice, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu, has ordered a full-scale, transparent, and unbiased investigation into the matter.”
