FG donates N30m to family of late Taiwo Akinkunmi, Nigerian flag designer
The Federal Government has donated N30 million to the family of the late Taiwo Akinkunmi, the designer of the Nigerian flag.
Akinkunmi passed away on August 30, 2023, at 87, after a brief illness. He was laid to rest on September 6, 2024—one year after his death—following a prolonged wait for the state burial promised by the government.
On Thursday, the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Lanre Issa-Onilu, alongside the Oyo State Director of the agency, Olukemi Afolayan, officially presented the N30 million cheque to Akinkunmi’s family at his residence in Elebu, Ibadan.
Issa-Onilu stated that the donation was meant to support the late designer’s family and honor his contributions to the nation.
“The donation of N30 million to the family of renowned national flag designer was not to pay for the services of the late legend but to support his family in appreciation of his contributions to the country” Issa-Onilu said
