After Tinubu won, I was happy and returned to my village. It was my goal – Bisi Akande
Bisi Akande, former interim chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has revealed that he was the one who encouraged President Bola Tinubu to run for the presidency in 2023.
Akande shared that after Tinubu won the presidency, he returned to his hometown in Ila, Osun State. During an interview with Edmund Obilo, Akande mentioned that Tinubu had expressed concern about his absence from Abuja.
He explained that while he does visit Abuja occasionally, he doesn’t always get the chance to meet with Tinubu during those trips.
Akande said: “My goal originally was for a Yoruba man to become president, and my choice was Tinubu. After he won, I was happy and returned to my village in Ila, Osun State.
“When he came back, I met him, and he said, ‘Baba, you asked me to run, I did, and became president, but now you (Akande) are running away.’
“It’s true! I went back to my village because I don’t want to be a minister or take any other thing.”
