Court finally grants Speed Darlington bail after police arraignment
An Abuja court has granted bail to controversial singer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, following pressure on the Nigeria Police Force to present him in court.
Darlington’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the development on X, stating: “Police finally arraigns Speed Darlington in court. Bail application moved and granted. We are trying to perfect same.” The specifics of the bail conditions are yet to be disclosed.
Darlington had previously filed a petition with DIG Dasuki Galadanchi, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Bureau, Abuja, challenging his continued detention. He urged compliance with a December 23, 2024, court order by Justice M.S. Liman, which directed the police to either charge him within 48 hours or release him unconditionally.
The singer’s arrest followed allegations he made accusing Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy of having an improper relationship with American music mogul Sean Combs, also known as P. Diddy.
