Nigerian Govt receives $52m Diezani loot from US
The Nigerian government has recovered $52.88 million in assets linked to former Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke, handed over by the United States.
At the signing ceremony in Abuja, Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, announced that $50 million will be allocated through the World Bank for rural electrification projects, while $2 million will support justice system expansion and anti-corruption efforts through the International Institute of Justice.
Fagbemi highlighted the asset recovery as a milestone in Nigeria’s collaboration with the U.S. to combat corruption and promote the rule of law, noting it aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s anti-corruption agenda.
U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, emphasized the importance of ensuring the funds are transparently utilized for the benefit of Nigerians.
