First wife gets her husband and his bride-to-be arrested two days to their traditional wedding in Abia
In Abia State, a woman had her husband and his new fiancée arrested just two days before their traditional wedding, accusing him of abandoning her and their children.
Ochiegbu Marvelous, an activist with the Behind Bar Human Rights Foundation, Abia chapter, revealed the incident on Facebook on January 5, 2025. The couple was later released after the intervention of the state Commissioner of Police and the Complaint Response unit.
During the wedding, the first wife reportedly attacked the second bride’s mother, disrupting the ceremony.
”On 3Rd day of January 2025, one of the elders in my village came to my house in the village crying profusely that his daughter whose traditional marriage is coming up on Sunday 5th January 2025 is in detention together with her husband at RRS as he speaks to me,” he narrated.
I asked the offence she committed, He said the first wife arrested the husband on the allegation that He abandoned them to marry another woman. That the marriage will not work hence they are detained.
I felt bad with the story. Some of my village youths pleaded with me to join them to station to hear from the horses mouth about what really transpired.
Getting to the station I saw the first wife who arrested the husband and new wife to be, boasting how she will jail my village sister for 7years for marrying her husband at the station.
That if the new wife to be brings out 500k she will bring 1m to make sure the marriage doesn’t work. Hmmmmm I was totally dumbfounded. I remained calm till I heard all she said before leaving the station.
Kai!! It pained me seeing where someone who doesn’t know what tomorrow is coming with is boasting .
To cut the long story short, they where released at no cost with the intervention of office of the Commissioner of Police Abia State Police Command
I want to appreciate the efforts of Complaint Response Abia Police Command . Am grateful may God bless Nigeria Police Force and protect our officers amen.
The insults, vulgar words, foul languages I received from the officer incharge of this case (IPO) was much but I count it all joy when the right thing is been done.
One thing with me is that I don’t reply when one is reigning insults on me during my line of duty.
They are celebrating there traditional marriage as I speak now.
God bless humanity. God bless everyone. We are not being paid for our services please take note!
