Northern elders’ influence in fielding candidates undermining democracy –Kwankwaso

Former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has criticized certain individuals who claim to represent Northern leadership for interfering in the selection of presidential candidates.

In an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, Kwankwaso argued that such interference disrupts democracy, divides the populace, and results in unqualified leaders taking office. He called on Northern elders, particularly from the Northwest, to avoid favoritism and allow democratic processes to guide candidate selection.

Kwankwaso also referenced lessons from past elections as a warning to these so-called leaders, urging them to stop imposing their will on the electorate. He further dismissed earlier rumors of a power-sharing agreement between himself and former presidential candidates Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi.
