Nigerians worship money, treat rich people like deity – Rapper, Sasha P

Veteran Nigerian rapper Anthonia Yetunde Alabi, popularly known as Sasha P, has voiced concerns over the growing obsession with wealth in the country.

The 41-year-old lamented that Nigerians increasingly measure a person’s worth by their riches, often elevating wealthy individuals to near-deity status.

Sasha P emphasized that money does not define character but rather magnifies it. She also criticized the tendency in Nigeria to respond to insults or confrontations by questioning someone’s financial status, describing the practice as unbecoming.

On her X handle, Sasha P wrote, “I think we lost the plot when people began to determine your value by how much money you have. People worship money in Nigeria, and any apparent show of wealth, you get treated like some deity when, in actual fact, you can have so much money and still be far from wisdom!

“Money doesn’t automatically make you cool or good company to keep. It doesn’t excuse you from accountability or bestow you with emotional intelligence. It is an amplifier….your character will still be your destiny!

“So unbecoming when the first retort to an affront is “how much do you even have?’ Your self-worth should not be tied to your possessions.”
