Nigeria does not have true Democracy – Davido
Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has suggested that Nigeria falls short of practicing true democracy compared to the United States.
The singer shared his thoughts during a recent appearance on The Morning Hustle podcast.
Davido reflected on the U.S. electoral process, highlighting his experience during Donald Trump’s election. Despite voting for the Democratic Party’s Kamala Harris, he revealed that he congratulated Trump on his victory. This, he explained, was because he trusts the integrity of American democracy—a sentiment he implied is lacking in Nigeria’s system.
“I congratulated Donald Trump. That’s the president! What are you talking about? If I were running against him, I would still have congratulated him.
“What I like about America is that there’s true democracy. Where I come from [Nigeria], it’s not so.
“To be honest, I voted for Kamala Harris because I wanted to see the first female president in my generation. That would have been cool.”
