Simon Ekpa called me to threaten me that I dont support Biafra – Orji Uzor Kalu
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North Senatorial District, has disclosed that Simon Ekpa, the self-proclaimed leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), threatened him for not supporting the Biafra movement.
Speaking during an interview with Arise Television on Monday, December 2, Kalu revealed that he had received threats from Ekpa but chose to disregard them. He reiterated his stance against the agitation for Biafra and urged governors in the South-East to remain steadfast in addressing the influence of non-state actors in the region.
“Simon Ekpa was calling and threatening me that I don’t support Biafra, but I left him to his conscience.
“I am very strong-willed when it comes to security, and I can do anything to safeguard the lives and property of the people I rule.
“You must be a strong leader to condemn crime, and I eradicated crime. No governor should tolerate any type of crime in his state; it is not allowed,” he said.
Ekpa, a prominent pro-Biafra agitator, was arrested by Finnish police on November 21. He was subsequently sent to prison by the district court of Päijät-Häme for allegedly spreading terrorist propaganda on social media.
The Finnish district court has set May 2025 as the deadline for the prosecution to file charges against him, marking the next phase of his legal battle.
