Nigeria needs you more than Western countries – Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria begs nurses not to ‘japa’
The Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Alhassan Ndagi, has called on Nigerian nurses to prioritize serving their home country over relocating abroad, emphasizing that their expertise is more urgently needed in Nigeria than in Europe or America.
Speaking during the induction ceremony of 37 nursing students in Osogbo over the weekend, Ndagi, represented by Stella Godswill, urged the new inductees to remain dedicated to their profession. He encouraged them to persevere despite the country’s economic challenges, highlighting the crucial role nurses play in the nation’s healthcare system.
“While some of you may seek opportunities to travel abroad, remember that a first degree is just the beginning of this fulfilling career. Though economic challenges may exist, Nigeria needs you more than Western countries,” Ndagi said.
