Onanuga will pay for insulting Obasanjo. He’s old enough to be his father – Bode George
Former PDP deputy national chairman, Bode George, has cautioned Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu’s spokesperson, over his alleged disrespectful remarks about ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Obasanjo recently criticized Nigeria’s 2023 elections, labeling them a “travesty,” during his address at Yale University. He highlighted issues such as corruption, poor leadership, and insecurity, and called for reform within the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The former president also referenced phrases like “Baba-go-slow” and “Emilokan,” criticizing the current administration’s leadership style.
In response, Onanuga accused Obasanjo of hypocrisy, blaming him for presiding over one of Nigeria’s most fraudulent elections in 2007. He also argued that Obasanjo’s administration contributed to the country’s economic struggles through poor policies.
Reacting to Onanuga’s remarks, George condemned the spokesperson’s tone, emphasizing the importance of respecting elders in Yoruba culture. Speaking on Nigeria Info FM, he stated that Onanuga’s behavior was unacceptable and would not go without consequences.
“An old man who could be Bayo Onanuga’s father said something, and you took him on by blasting him right, left, and centre,” George said, adding that Onanuga had previously shown similar disrespect towards him.
George further emphasized the importance of respecting elders, stating, “Even if you want to react, the Yoruba culture does not allow that insult from him. Someday he would pay back, because there would be a day after, and that’s more important.” George also suggested that Onanuga should be cautious in his actions, as “it’s possible for him.”
