”This needs urgent attention” – Bashir Ahmad cries out as UNICEF report shows 15.23 million out-of-school children in Northern Nigeria while the South has only 2.58 million.
Former Presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, recently expressed concern following a UNICEF report revealing a significant disparity in school attendance across Nigeria’s regions. The report highlighted that Northern Nigeria has a staggering 15.23 million out-of-school children, compared to just 2.58 million in the South.
In a social media post, Bashir voiced his alarm over the figures, noting the urgent need for attention to educational access in the North
Good morning Arewa,
According to a UNICEF report, there are 15.23 million out-of-school children in Northern Nigeria, while the South has only 2.58 million.
• North West: 8.04 million
• North East: 5.06 million
• North Central: 2.12 million
• South West: 1.15 million
• South South: 769,000
• South East: 664,000
This is a serious educational crisis that needs urgent attention. Stakeholders across the North, from government officials, traditional leaders, NGOs, volunteers, and members of our communities, must unite with determination to secure a better future for our region.
Let’s liberate the younger and next generation from the cycle of poverty and limited opportunities by ensuring they all have access to education.
Kindly share as widely as possible!”
