Electricity will be restored to North in 72 hours – FG
The Federal Government has announced that electricity in Northern Nigeria will be restored within 72 hours following an outage that began on October 22. The disruption, affecting the North-East, North-West, and parts of North-Central Nigeria, occurred when insurgents vandalized the Shiroro-Kaduna transmission line, causing the 330-kV Ugwaji-Apir transmission lines to trip.
President Bola Tinubu has since ordered military protection of the power lines to ensure repairs proceed safely. In an October 29 session with the Senate Committee on Power, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu shared that, as a temporary solution, power will be rerouted through the Ugwuaji-Makurdi line to restore electricity to about 80% of the affected areas.
The Minister stated, “Power will be restored to the North in two to three days. We will use the Ugwuaji-Makurdi transmission line temporarily.”
