The minimum wage is going to be what Nigerians can afford – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu announced that he would approve a new minimum wage that is financially sustainable for the government.

He made this statement on Wednesday during a dinner in Abuja, celebrating Nigeria’s 25 years of uninterrupted democracy.

Tinubu expressed gratitude to his longtime supporters and assured Nigerians that he would remain committed to the principles of democratic governance.

“I have to celebrate with you my dear brother, Senate President, Deputy Senate President,” he said, adding that Senate President Godswill Akpabio and his deputy, Jibrin Barau would soon get an Executive Bill from him on the new minimum wage.

“The minimum wage is going to be what Nigerians can afford, what you can afford and what I can afford. Cut your coat according to your size, if you have size at all,” he said.

The President also vowed to reduce food prices by addressing the issue of banditry, which has driven many farmers off their land.

He urged Nigerians to support his administration’s initiatives to bolster the economy and announced that a bill proposing a new minimum wage would soon be submitted to the National Assembly, among other measures.
