Verydarkman granted bail after 3 weeks in custody
A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to VeryDarkMan, who was accused of cyberbullying.
He was released from police custody on Monday after meeting the bail conditions, although the specific terms of the bail have not been disclosed yet.
The online personality faced charges of cyberstalking and was arraigned at the Federal High Court in Abuja on May 22. The Nigerian police charged him for posting offensive videos on Instagram and making indecent allegations against Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dikeh.
One charge alleged that he posted videos containing information that was “grossly offensive, pornographic, or of an indecent, obscene, or menacing character.” Another charge claimed he alleged that Iyabo Ojo had an indecent sexual relationship with her daughter. He was also accused of alleging that Tonto Dikeh was behind the gossip blog, Gistlover.
Verydarkman denied all charges against him. The prosecution requested his remand in prison, but his legal team requested that he remain in police custody. The court approved this request, leading to his transfer to the National Cybercrime Centre.
He was initially arrested on March 22 and released on March 31. His lawyer revealed that the arrest was based on complaints from Tonto Dikeh, Iyabo Ojo, and Samklef.
