Strike: “Economic Sabotage” – Godswill Akpabio speaks on shutting down national grid
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has criticized organized labour for shutting down the national grid, describing it as economic sabotage rather than a push for a new minimum wage.
On June 4, Akpabio spoke on the Senate floor following a motion by Senator Diket Plang regarding the indefinite strike initiated by labour on June 3 over the government’s failure to set a new minimum wage.
The strike led to a nationwide blackout as part of the union’s efforts. Akpabio condemned the disruption of the ongoing West African School Certificate Examination and hajj flights, calling these actions excessive and detrimental. He commended labour for ending the strike to facilitate negotiations.
