Indefinite strike: FCTA Secretariat locked
On Monday, the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) locked the Secretariat entrance to comply with the labour union’s indefinite strike. The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) had called for a strike starting June 3 due to the Federal Government’s failure to increase the proposed N60,000 minimum wage and reverse the recent electricity tariff hike.
JUAC President, Mrs. Rifkatu Lortyer, stated that their actions followed NLC and TUC directives, urging FCTA workers to stay home and support the strike, which she said was in the interest of Nigerian workers. The unions had given an ultimatum to the government to finalize the new minimum wage by May 31. TUC President, Festus Osifo, highlighted that the strike became necessary after the government refused to increase the proposed wage and reverse the tariff hike during recent negotiations.
