Senate pardons Ningi, reinstates lawmaker

The Senate has pardoned and reinstated Bauchi Central Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi.

Ningi was suspended for three months on March 12, 2024, for accusing the Senate of budget padding.

The recall process began after Deputy Minority Leader Sen. Abba Moro moved a motion, expressing regret on behalf of the suspended senator.

Sen. Abba Moro took full responsibility for Sen. Ningi’s actions, recognizing the seriousness of the suspension. The senator’s conduct during the suspension period had been closely scrutinized and debated within the legislative body.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio highlighted Ningi’s resourcefulness and described him as a valued member of the Senate, noting that the decision to recall Sen. Ningi transcends religious and ethnic divides.
