Fela had 27 wives and 100 girlfriends that almost killed him with stress – Seun Kuti
Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti revealed that his late father, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, was nearly overwhelmed by the stress caused by his numerous wives and concubines.
Seun explained that, in addition to the 27 wives Fela married on the same day and his other wives from before that marriage, Fela had over 100 concubines living with him at his Kalakuta commune.
Seun noted that managing all these women placed a tremendous amount of stress on Fela.
Speaking on the ‘Bahd & Boujee’ podcast, Kuti said, “People only know of Fela’s 27 wives, they don’t know of his over 100 girlfriends that lived with us in the house.
“The wives and girlfriends almost killed Fela with stress.”
Fela died of AIDS-related complications on August 2, 1997, at the age of 58.
